Set in the shadowy world of 1934 London theatre, The Critic is a taut period thriller based on Anthony Quinn’s novel Curtain Call.

Sir Ian McKellen stars as Jimmy Erskine, a feared and flamboyantly cruel theatre critic whose scathing reviews wield enormous power. When Erskine is dismissed from his post at The Daily Chronicle, he orchestrates a manipulative scheme to reclaim his position.

With rich period detail and a standout performance by McKellen, The Critic explores ambition, vanity, and the corrosive power of unchecked influence.
