The poetry of A. E. Housman remains among the most popular and accessible in the English language, with special affection for his cycle “A Shropshire Lad”. These and other Housman poems, set in the English countryside and evoking with Romantic melancholy the wistfulness of a lost youth, have inspired settings by some of England's finest composers.

This programme by Ian Buckle, accompanied by readings and vocals from Jonathan Gunthorpe and Alex Pratley, combines songs by Ireland, Butterworth and Gurney alongside piano music inspired by the texts, together with readings of the poems.

Afternoon Tea, served from 3pm, will be available to purchase. Ticket holders will be sent an email a week before the date of the concert with details of the menu and information on ordering.

See the website for more information and to book tickets.
