It is the 1950's and former Wimbledon champion, Tony Wendice, has married Sheila in order to finance his tennis career and lifestyle. After discovering her past affair with crime writer, Max Halliday, he now plans to murder her so that he can inherit her fortune. He plans the perfect crime, blackmailing an old school acquaintance and racketeer, Captain Lesgate, to carry out the murder while creating an ingenious alibi for himself.
However, the plan goes awry. Tony now has many balls in the air and has to think very quickly on his feet. Can he use incriminating evidence to further his ends - advantage Wendice? Will his new scheme to rid himself of Sheila and get his hands on her wealth work out - game, set and match? Or can Police Inspector Hubbard serve some aces and disrupt Tony's play, saving the wrongly accused from the executioner's noose?
Don't miss the dramatic finale of this thrilling encounter....
