Scything is a traditional rural skill that was used to cut hay. The skill is kept alive by enthusiasts and scything is still used to cut hay in small or difficult locations where using a tractor isn’t possible.

From 10am-1pm there will be scything demonstrations and have-a-go sessions, so you can try your hand at scything. There will also be Green Woodworking demonstrations from the Cambridge Bodgers, making items from the wood that is a by-product from the Woodland Restoration Project.

Stay around for the afternoon to watch the scything championships and see how the experts do it. Last year’s winner cut a plot 5m x 5m in under two and a half minutes! The competitions will start around 2pm.

See the website for more information.
