A community-owned freehouse at the heart of village life on the Cambridgeshire–Essex border, The Lion was saved by the community, refurbished and reopened in summer 2025.
Set in a beautiful 300-year-old building on the ancient Icknield Way and National Cycle Route 11, The Lion offers delicious homemade food, proper pints, local beers, wines and spirits. The friendly welcome from Nic and her team provieds a relaxed setting for working lunches, family gatherings, parties and wakes.
Regular community events include a volunteer-run café, a book club, a gin club, games nights, and a communal table on Wednesdays.
Walkers, cyclists, families, dogs, and muddy boots are all welcome; convenient cycle storage is visible from the garden.
